2002 Round the World Race- conducted by Clipper Ventures
This race is held every two years. The race Shivani was on started in
October 2002 and finished in September 2003.
It is a race between 8 identical boats of 60 feet in length and
a crew of 14. The captain is the only professional person on board. The rest are people who may or may not have sailing experience, You
have to pass an interview then the training before you get to the race. Most,if not all ,of the crew get 2-3 weeks of training
in the Atlantic prior to joining their Boats.
The race is divided into sectors.1} Liverpool to Cuba, 2}Cuba
to Hawaii via the Panama Canal. 3} Hawaii to Hong Kong via Yokohama & Shanghai,4} Hong Kong to Mauritius via San Ferdinando
(Phillipines) and Singapore.5}Then from Mauritius to Brazil via Cape Town and 6} finally from Brazil to Liverpool via
New York. You can do as many sectors as you want to,from 1 to 6
This time, because of SARS, the race was from Hong Kong to Mauritius
via Batam (Indonesia). Shivani raced this sector..
